Known perhaps as Latin America's most notorious dictator
for his iron-fisted regime in Chile (1973-1990), Augusto Pinochet
died on Dec. 10, aged 91. He faced numerous lawsuits for human
rights violations and corruption, but he will never know what
the verdicts would have been. The Chilean army paid him homage,
but the administration of Michelle Bachelet denied him a funeral
with presidential honours. Pinochet will never be convicted
in court. The courtroom of history has yet to issue its final
verdict. |
