About the Southern Africa Water Wire

The Southern Africa Water Wire is a multi-media information platform that provides in-depth and high quality information on integrated water resources management in Southern Africa. It is the product of a partnership between IPS and the SADC/DANIDA Regional Water Sector Programme. The vision of the partners is to grow the Southern Water Wire into an effective communication channel that privileges the voices and concerns of citizens, policy makers and civil society organisations in SADC.

The Southern Africa Water Wire would like to tap into the formidable resource of journalists in the region to create a flexible and virtual "newsroom". Journalists in the SADC region are encouraged to contribute in-depth news and analysis that provides insights into the linkages between water management and socio-economic development in their countries.

News in RSSThe Southern Africa Water Wire provides in-depth coverage of a diverse range of water-related issues in Southern Africa linking water to economic development, social well-being and environmental protection. The articles supplied here are the product of local journalists in touch with policy makers and people on the front lines of water crises, to analyse the problems confronting management of this precious commodity -- and the ways around these obstacles. The Southern Africa Water Wire is one of the awareness creation tools for the Regional Water Sector Programme - A Southern African Development Community (SADC) initiative funded by Danida.

IPS gratefully acknowledges the
support of the SADC / DANIDA for an IPS programme of work in 2007 on water.
