The Honduran Armed Forces launched a campaign to plant one million trees in the country's most vulnerable areas, deputy Defense minister Lionel Sevilla told Tierramérica. The effort will last one month and, according to Sevilla, is part of the military's commitments to protect the environment. Also participating are community groups, and local and national government agencies, “because the problem of conserving the forest involves everyone,” he said.

Environment Minister Tomás Vaquero told Tierramérica that the military mission is part of the ministry's activities under way since last year to preserve 372 protected areas.
