Honduran tourism and environmental officials are promoting an eco-garbage can project to foment a culture of recycling and garbage classification among residents in the capital, home to 1.7 million people. Two young entrepreneurs are leading the project. They hope to set up ecological containers in Tegucigalpa's main commercial centers and in the historic district beginning in November.

Tourism Secretary Ana Abarca told Tierramérica that the eco-garbage bins are made from environmentally friendly materials, with separate containers for depositing organic and inorganic waste, as well as providing information of interest to tourists and residents. The idea's promoters – Ricardo Flores of El Salvador and Mariano García of Argentina – hope to take their initiative to six more tourist cities in this country.
