Environmental groups should better coordinate their campaigns against climate change and focus more on young people, says Claudia Gómez-Portugal, strategic director of Sakbé, a Mexican organization focused on environmental communication. “There is a lack of information among young people. The non-governmental organizations should work more strategically” in this sense, she told Tierramérica.

Sakbé launched an initiative in September called “Break Up with Climate Change” aimed at Mexican youths and including participation of NGOs and governmental bodies. The plan is to extend it to the whole country next year.

The environmental group Greenpeace carried out its “Draw the Line on Climate Change” campaign, which collected 90,000 signatures that were delivered to Mexican officials in order to press for an effective global agreement for reducing greenhouse gases.
