Around 30 non-governmental organizations in Honduras make up the Alliance for Food Sovereignty, whose mission is to promote sustainable agriculture and reforms that give a boost to small farmers. Activist Tatiana Núñez told Tierramérica that in the coming days they will launch the “Directo al grano” campaign to raise awareness about the importance of family farming and demand greater government investment and more international cooperation in the sector.

The campaign includes exhibitions of farm products and cultural activities, as well as the formal presentation of a farmland ownership reform bill, to make land distribution more equitable instead of fallow land in the hands of large landowners.

According to the Alliance, the idea is to promote a new process of agrarian reform to go beyond the effort begun in the 1970s.
