By IPS Correspondents and - -
TEGUCIGALPA, Mar 28 2011 (IPS)

A beaver and a drop of water are the “heroes” in a new comic strip that recounts their adventures in protecting the environment, to be published in Honduran newspapers. The initiative, aimed at raising environmental awareness among children, is part of a project developed by entrepreneur Emilio Larach to promote corporate responsibility, educational and reforestation programmes in Tegucigalpa.

“The Adventures of Mr. Beaver and Little Water Drop”, as the comic strip is called, seeks to contribute to “halting the advance of the destruction of the environment and forests,” which combined with the shortage of water is “wounding the economy and life,” Larach told Tierramérica.

The comic strip will be published once weekly, touching on different issues. One of them is forests fires, which have destroyed more than 4,000 hectares of forests so far this year.
