Kampala (IPS\/afr). In der N\u00e4he von Mpigi, einer Kleinstadt ca. 40 Kilometer westlich der ugandischen Hauptstadt Kampala, steht ein ganz spezielles Dorf: Die H\u00e4user wurden aus Plastikflaschen errichtet. Die umweltfreundliche Idee gewinnt immer mehr Anh\u00e4nger.<\/p>\n

Uganda hat ein riesiges M\u00fcllproblem. Allein in der Hauptstadt Kampala fallen j\u00e4hrlich mehr als 350.000 Tonnen an festen Abfallstoffen an. Zumindest die H\u00e4lfte davon wird einfach im Freien entsorgt. Plastikflaschen liegen \u00fcberall neben den Stra\u00dfen, nicht selten verstopfen sie die Entw\u00e4sserungsrinnen.<\/p>\n

Die “Social Innovation Academy”<\/a>\u00a0(SINA) hat den M\u00fcllbergen den Kampf angesagt. Etwas au\u00dferhalb von Mpigi liegt das Projektdorf Sina, das aus Plastikflaschen errichtet wurde. Dazu wurden handels\u00fcbliche Flaschen prall mit Erde gef\u00fcllt und verbaut.<\/p>\n

Drei Millionen Plastikflaschen f\u00fcr 117 H\u00e4user<\/strong><\/p>\n

David Monday arbeitet als Baumeister und Trainer bei SINA. Seit mehr als f\u00fcnf Jahren errichtet er bereits Geb\u00e4ude aus Plastikflaschen. Den Ausschlag gab ein Bericht aus Nigeria, wo bereits seit dem Jahr 2011 Flaschenh\u00e4user gebaut werden. “Und so haben wir damit begonnen, Flaschen und Reifen zu sammeln und daraus \u00f6kologische Bausteine zu machen”, erz\u00e4hlt er.<\/p>\n

Monday hat aber auch ein pers\u00f6nliches Motiv f\u00fcr sein Engagement: Sein j\u00fcngerer Bruder verschwand, als er einen Sumpf zu durchqueren versuchte. Eine Suchaktion blieb stundenlang erfolglos. Schlie\u00dflich wurde sein lebloser K\u00f6rper unter einem Berg aus Plastikflaschen gefunden.<\/p>\n

F\u00fcr den Bau von bislang 117 H\u00e4usern wurden rund drei Millionen Plastikflaschen verarbeitet. F\u00fcr Monday k\u00f6nnen die Flaschenh\u00e4user auch einen wertvollen Beitrag zur zunehmenden Wohnungsnot in Uganda leisten. Nach Angaben des \u201cUganda Bureau of Statistics” weist das Land derzeit ein Defizit von 2,1 Millionen Wohneinheiten auf. Sch\u00e4tzungen zufolge werden im Jahr 2030 voraussichtlich \u00fcber f\u00fcnf Millionen Wohnungen fehlen.<\/p>\n

In Kamwokya, einer informellen Siedlung in Kampala, errichtet eine Gruppe junger Menschen rund um das “Ghetto Research Lab” ebenfalls H\u00e4user aus Plastikflaschen. Rehema Naluekenge ist von der L\u00f6sung \u00fcberzeugt: “Die Geb\u00e4ude erweisen sich als recht langlebig. Wir haben bislang keine Risse gesehen”, erz\u00e4hlt sie. “Unser Gesch\u00e4ftsf\u00fchrer sagt uns immer, dass Abfall nur dann Abfall ist, wenn wir ihn verschwenden.”<\/p>\n

\u00a0Beh\u00f6rden hinken nach<\/strong><\/p>\n

Auch im Bezirk Mukono in Zentral-Uganda setzt der Highschool Lehrer Allan Obbo auf Flaschenh\u00e4user. Eine Reihe von Cottages seiner Hotelnlage “Bottle Garden Resort” sind aus Plastikflaschen errichtet worden.<\/p>\n

“Studien haben ergeben, dass Kunststoffe sehr gef\u00e4hrlich f\u00fcr die Umwelt sind”, sagt Obbo. “Schauen Sie sich doch unsere Seen an, die Gew\u00e4sser sind voll davon. Forschungen zeigen, dass der Abbau einer Plastikflasche 300 Jahre dauert. Der M\u00fcll hat einen gro\u00dfen Nutzen, wenn er als Baustoff verwendet wird.”<\/p>\n

Obbo weist auf einen noch einen anderen Vorteil hin. “Die Flaschen sind ohnehin schon da. F\u00fcr die Herstellung von Ziegeln werden aber h\u00e4ufig Bodenfl\u00e4chen verbraucht, die dann f\u00fcr die Landwirtschaft fehlen. Au\u00dferdem werden f\u00fcr Baustellen viele B\u00e4ume gef\u00e4llt.”<\/p>\n

Der Lehrer zeigt sich aber entt\u00e4uscht, dass die Beh\u00f6rden in st\u00e4dtischen Gebieten die Plastikflaschen als Baustoff nicht genehmigen. Das best\u00e4tigt auch die Architektin Patricia Kayongo, Gesch\u00e4ftsf\u00fchrerin der in Kampala ans\u00e4ssigen “Dream Architects Ltd.” Sie erkl\u00e4rt, dass das zust\u00e4ndige Normungsinstitut Plastikflaschen als Baustoff bislang nicht getestet hat und daher keine Bewilligungen erteilt.<\/p>\n

“Das bedeutet aber, dass den Menschen M\u00f6glichkeiten f\u00fcr den g\u00fcnstigen Hausbau genommen werden”, kritisiert Kayongo.
