Ecobreves – HONDURAS: Financing for a Million-Dollar Wind Project

TEGUCIGALPA, Nov 22 2010 (IPS) - The Central American Economic Integration Bank (BCIE) will provide 209.3 million dollars in financing for a company with U.S. capital to generate wind energy in Cerro de Hula, south of the Honduran capital. Nick Rischbieth, president of the BCIE, told Tierramérica that the loan to the company, Energía Eólica de Honduras, is an effort to reduce emissions of greenhouse-effect gases associated with the combustion of fossil fuels.

The project will produce about 102 megawatts and is the first wind energy initiative to be built in Honduras.
