Ecobreves – HONDURAS: Speeding Up Environmental Permits

TEGUCIGALPA, Oct 4 2010 (IPS) - The Honduran Secretariat of Natural Resources and Environment announced a project to eliminate delays in issuing environmental permits. According to the head of the portfolio, Rigoberto Cuéllar, the system will allow officials to resolve 1,500 filed in two months, and “make the permit process faster and more transparent.”

On average, the permit can take one to three months, and there is no environmental auditing. But now that has changed, and an alliance with the institution “Honduras Competes,” of the National Commission for Competition, has launched this project as an incentive for investment and production, Cuéllar told Tierramérica.
