- Starting in July the vehicle use restriction program in force in the Mexican capital will be expanded from Monday through Friday to include Saturdays. The measure requires all cars, including those certified as low polluters, to refrain from circulation at least 10 Saturdays each year.
“Everything is in place” and there is an agreement between the Mexico City authorities and the neighboring state of the same name, an area with 20 million people and four million vehicles, Martha Delgado, environmental secretary for the capital district, told Tierramérica.
The new rule is added to the requirement that each car must not circulate one day between Monday and Friday, imposed on cars older than 10 years. The goal is to reduce air pollution from car fuel exhaust.
