Ecobreves – CHILE: Promoting Inclusive Recycling

SANTIAGO, Sep 29 2008 (IPS) - Very few municipalities in Chile apply “clear policies for waste management, with environmental, economic and social components, where all benefit,” Exequiel Estay, secretary-general of the National Movement of Recyclers, told Tierramérica. The movement is one of the organizers, along with the Avina Foundation and local public institutions, of the second National Recyclers Convention of Chile, to take place Oct. 3-4 in the northern city of La Serena, in the region of Coquimbo.

The objective is “to empower and make more visible the effort that the country’s recyclers have been carrying out since 1998,” said Estay.
