Ecobreves – CHILE: Film Protesting Aysén Dams Premiers

SANTIAGO, Oct 19 2009 (IPS) - The Patagonia Defense Council, an umbrella for more than 50 Chilean and foreign organizations, last week presented a documentary film on the potential threats of the five hydroelectric dams planned for the southern region of Aysén. “The documentary 'Patagonia Free of Dams!' is one more contribution to our campaign against the project of the HidroAysén company and its communications charge,” Council spokesperson Juan Pablo Orrego told Tierramérica.

Biologist and documentary filmmaker Mauricio Viñas directed the 45-minute film.

HidroAysén, owned by the transnational corporation Endesa and the national power company Colbún, announced that on Oct. 20 it would give the Chilean authorities its response to more than 3,000 observations that public agencies made in processing the project's environmental impact statement.
