CARACAS, Oct 19 2009 (IPS) - Biologists and teachers in Venezuela produced a school text about the iguana, a type of lizard found in warm and arid zones, extending from Mexico to northern Argentina – and victim of uncontrolled hunting. The book “Conservation of Iguanas Through Environmental Education” contains “information about the species and the importance of preserving its habitat, with a series of didactic games so that the children color in pictures and assemble words and images,” one of the authors, Beatriz Esté, told Tierramérica.

The environmentalist Abrae Foundation, which Esté heads, will begin a tour to present the book in schools on the Caribbean island of Margarita in preparation for a “walk for the iguana” to take place in May 2010.
