Ecobreves – CHILE: Preparing for Cochabamba Climate Summit

SANTIAGO, Apr 12 2010 (IPS) - More than 100 people will be part of the Chilean delegation to the World People's Conference on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth, to take place Apr. 19-22 in the central Bolivian city of Cochabamba. Chilean civil society groups participating in the summit have held several meetings in Santiago and have requested support from the Bolivian consulate. Three busloads of people are expected to make the trip from the northern Chilean city of Iquique.

“We believe that one of the important elements to develop as civil society organizations is a higher level of oversight of our governments' actions, through environmental comptrollers established in the different nations,” delegate and activist Paulina Acevedo told Tierramérica.
