Ecobreves – ARGENTINA: Grants for Environmental Activism

BUENOS AIRES, Nov 28 2011 (IPS) - Greenpeace Argentina has launched a grant competition for young people, who would be provided with training and funding for campaigns aimed at solving environmental problems in their communities that are not being addressed. "This is the third time we are holding this grant competition, which only takes place in Argentina. We are offering training with leading experts and financial support," Greenpeace Argentina executive director Martín Prieto told Tierramérica.

On Dec. 15, the organization will announce five winners from among young residents of Argentina who have submitted project proposals on four themes relevant to the provinces of Buenos Aires (in central-east Argentina), Chaco (northeast), Río Negro (south) and San Luis (central-west).

The grant winners can join the organization or receive training "to tackle environmental problems in their communities, working on issues that no one else is working on," said Prieto.
