When scientists speak of the Sargasso Sea, which occupies part of the Atlantic Ocean, there is usually little mention of things drifting out because of the immobile currents.
The figures are certainly impressive. According to Statistics South Africa (Stats SA), a government agency, the country's tourism industry has experienced growth of over 100 percent since the demise of apartheid in 1994 - with the number of international visitors increasing from 3.6 million to 7.3 million by 2005.
