- A network of civil resistance against mining aims to prevent open-pit mines and environmental contamination in Honduras. Involved in the movement are community groups from the western departments of Ocotepeque, Santa Bárbara and Copán, the central departments of Francisco Morazán and Comayagua, La Paz and El Paraíso in the south, and Olancho in the east.
One of their aims is to standardize policies and strategies and to start a sort of tax on the mining companies “for the harm caused in several places around the country,” network coordinator Carlos Amador told Tierramérica.
