- The southern Argentine city of Ushuaia will host the First International Mountain Film Festival, Aug. 19-24. The events include sports activities, photo exhibits and presentations on conservation issues. Organized by the Ushuaia Andean Club in the capital of Tierra del Fuego province, and Vertigo Producciones, it will take place at the Martial Glacier and other notable sites in the city.
Event organizer Pablo de Antueno told Tierramérica that 24 documentaries, feature films and experimental videos about mountains in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Spain, France and Italy have been selected.
“The objective is to promote the development of mountain activities that allow their conservation,” said De Antueno. There will be conferences on ecology, geomorphology and expedition safety, as well as activities like climbing, skiing, hang-gliding and skating.
