- Some 200 women in eastern Caracas will benefit from a program that will provide them with training in recycling and the manufacture and sale of clothing, bags, ornaments, cards and various crafts. The products will be made from recycled fabric, paper and cardboard. The program, called “My Sustainable Business”, will promote learning in two areas: environmental and financial.
The participants, mainly female heads of household, will “acquire a range of knowledge, on environmental issues and recycling, craft-making skills, financial matters, small business management and marketing,” said Diego Hernández, the assistant executive director of Provita, the environmental organization promoting the program.
The initiative is supported by the local authorities in Sucre, the municipality that covers part of the east side of Caracas, and the Citbank group, which will assist with the financial education workshops and provide revolving credit for at least 30 of the women entrepreneurs.
