- The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) will make 30 million dollars available in loans for developing renewable energy in Honduras. Environment Minister Rigoberto Cuéllar told Tierramérica that the commitment is part of the achievements made at the 16th Conference of Parties (COP 16) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, held Nov. 29 to Dec. 11 in Cancún, Mexico.
The current government of Honduras has approved some 50 micro-enterprise renewable energy projects throughout this Central American country.
“We are searching with the IDB and World Bank for donations to deal with climate vulnerabilities in Tegucigalpa and other Honduran cities,” said Cuéllar. As part of a global fund for adapting to the effects of climate change, Honduras will begin receiving about six million dollars in 2011.
